Niagara: Enabling the Building Operating System (BOS)

Smart buildings are attracting growing attention worldwide for their ability to optimize energy usage, maximize space utilization, improve maintainability, and enable predictive maintenance. However, building data has traditionally been underutilized.

One of the key reasons is that each desired service and building system typically requires custom integration. As the number of connected services and devices increases, development costs and implementation effort grow proportionally. (See illustration on the left.)

A Building Operating System (BOS) addresses this challenge by understanding the protocols (languages) used by both services and building systems, enabling seamless communication, data processing, and interoperability between them. (See illustration on the right.)

By serving as a common integration layer, BOS connects services and devices more efficiently, significantly reducing development costs and implementation effort while accelerating the realization of smart building solutions.
